4 Tips To Prepare Your AC For The Coming Summer
With spring coming to a close, and the hot summer months right around the corner, if you haven't already started to put your air conditioning system into use, you will be soon. Summer can be a difficult time for your AC as there is a lot that is expected from it in the coming months. Over the coming months, your air conditioning system is likely going to be put into almost constant use, and this kind of heavy use comes with its own set of risks and difficulties. Now, before the summer gets into full swing is the time to make sure that your home's air conditioning system is prepared for the task that lies ahead to ensure that you and your family are able to remain cool and comfortable inside your home this summer. In an effort to help you do so, our team of air conditioning specialists here at Champion Air Systems have taken the time to put together this short list detailing a couple of things you can do now to prepare your system for the marathon in front of it.
Clean & Change Your Filters
Clogged air filters can lead to a serious decrease in the amount of cooling your system is able to do, and also happen to be one of the leading causes of damage to air conditioning systems all around the country. The particles that get stuck on these filters make it more difficult for your system to intake and circulate air throughout your home, and can also cause serious damage when it finds its way into your system itself. These filters accumulate dirt and dust quite quickly, which makes it important to ensure you are changing your filters every month is your system uses disposable filters, or cleaning it on the same timeframe if your system uses a permanent filter.
Check For Air Flow Leaks & Obstructions
Now, before your system goes into heavy use is the time to make sure that there are no gaps or obstructions in your home's air ducts that might be causing you to have reduced air flow. You can either perform this yourself, or you can hire a professional if you would like a more thorough accounting of the condition of your air ducts and the blower components of your system. You will also want to do a walkthrough of your home and check around your doors and windows in particular to see if the area feels more drafty, as these are a very common area for cracks and leaks to occur.
Compressor & Coil Maintenance
During this pre-summer inspection, you will also want to take a tour outside and ensure that your outdoor unit hasn't accumulated a great deal of debris over the past couple months. If you find any debris, you will want to clear it away and make sure that you continue to do so at regular intervals. Debris that gets into your unit can cause serious damage. In addition, you will want to locate the coils on your system and make sure that they haven't accumulated any buildups of dirt or grime. If they have, gently clean them off as dirty coils can decrease your unit's efficiency.
Call In A Pro
Preventative maintenance is always going to be a superior option as opposed to emergency maintenance. With a professional checkup, your system will get a thorough inspection, and our team of professionals will be able to spot any potential problems and get them resolved before they have a chance to develop into something more serious.
